Trastuzumab induced normalisation and regression of the vasculature in HER2-overexpressing breast cancer xenografts [17], whilst in a separate study, the combined administration of trastuzumab and paclitaxel resulted in the best response in tumour models compared to either treatment alone, indicating that trastuzumab-induced normalisation of tumour vasculature may have permitted more efficient intratumoural drug delivery, resulting in synergistic activity of the combination [18]. The gene discussed is ERBB2; the disease is breast cancer.
