SLC30A3 and Alzheimer disease: Taken together these data suggest that despite comparable levels of vesicular Zn2+, but higher expression of the ZnT3 and lower Zn2+ in the soluble fraction, the regulation of Zn2+ homeostasis in NDAN individuals may be better preserved in comparison to AD cases, thus possibly reducing the Zn2+: Aβ interaction and subsequent Aβ targeting to the PSD.
