Since then, at least 16 loci (designed as PARK1 to PARK16) and 11 genes have been associated with inherited forms of parkinsonism, including, for example, PARK1, PARK4/SNCA, PARK2/parkin, PARK5/ubiquitin COOH-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCHL1), PARK6/PTEN-induced kinase 1 (PINK1), PARK/DJ-1, and PARK8/Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2).
