We have established an in vitro model of cancer metastasis using SK-Hep1 cells, and showed that the anti-metastatic pathway was associated with the inhibition of MMP-2, MMP-9, and urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA), as well as the elevated levels of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) and plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1). The gene discussed is MMP9; the disease is cancer.
