Although this was suggested to be a mechanism that restricted the infection of resting T cells by HIV, subsequent knockout studies of LMM A3G in resting CD4+ T cells did not render these cells permissive to HIV infection, thus indicating that the difference in the LMM- versus HMM-bound proportion of A3G is not the sole mechanism for resistance of resting CD4+ T cells to HIV infection [107,108].
