Furthermore, although no clinical or epidemiological data yet exists to suggest that the use of β2-AR agonists has any beneficial effect on slowing or stopping the progression of PD in human patients, our data suggests that this class of therapeutics, particularly salmeterol, may be a new and highly effective treatment to halt the progression of not only PD but also other neuroinflammatory diseases.
