This is a novel finding as there have not been any reported associations of ATG5 as a candidate gene for asthma based on searches using PUBMED (terms ATG5 genetic association, date 8/29/2011) and the National Human Genome Research Institute’s Catalog of Published Genome-Wide Association Studies (http://www.genome.gov/gwastudies/index.cfm?pageid=26525384#searchForm assessed 8/29/2011) [26]. The gene discussed is ATG5; the disease is asthma.
