The importance of the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis in the susceptibility/resistance phenotype against filariasis is further supported by the recent observation of a correlation between high CXCR4 expression in PleCs and a low filarial recovery rate in granzyme-deficient C57BL/6 mice presenting different degrees of susceptibility after infection by L. sigmodontis[52].
