Figure 1C further shows that the loss of CD4+ T cells was primarily due to depletion of the “memory” population that is CD45RA negative and CCR5 positive. The loss of mucosal CD4+ T cells was accompanied by a concomitant increase in CD8+ T cells (Fig. 1D) at 21 and 90d PI. Figure S1 shows total B cell percentages prior to and at 21 and 90d after infection. The average CD20+ B cell percentages (dotted line) at 21 and 90d after infection were not statistically different from the pre-infection time point. Here, CD4 is linked to infection.
