A deletion or mutation in a number of genes which regulate cell cycle and cell death in the ovary could affect both fertility (through regulation of follicle pool) and carcinogenesis (by increasing growth stimilus and/or removing growth inhibition): for example, in vitro studies have proved that mice deficient in LATS1 are infertile and develop ovarian tumours [32].
