While the parental A3.01-CCR5 T-cells are permissive for HIV and cells transduced with huTRIM5α remained permissive, rhTRIM5α expression rendered the A3.01-CCR5 T-cells highly resistant to infection by cell-free virus (Fig. S3A) but not to infection by HIV via the cell-cell transmission route (Fig. S3B).
