Previous studies have identified individual microbial species sufficient to regulate angptl4 expression in gnotobiotic zebrafish [47], [48] and mouse hosts [9], [75] as well as in cultured colon cancer cells [31], [76], suggesting that reductionist approaches in these microbial species could be used to define the specific factors they utilize to control expression of angptl4 homologs and other host genes.
