The adiponectin gene contributes to variances in the plasma adiponectin levels and insulin resistance index and predisposes to obesity and type 2 diabetes [17-19]; the genes encoding adiponectin receptors are associated with insulin resistance, liver fat and the risk of type 2 diabetes [20,21]; SNPs in APPL1 are found to be correlated with body fat distribution in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes [8]. This evidence concerns the gene APPL1 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
