In summary, this study provide evidence that the -844 G/A PAI-1 polymorphism is related with the risk of developing MetS, obesity and atherogenic dyslipidemia, and the HindIII C/G PAI-1 polymorphism is associated with increased total cholesterol levels, which contributes to the pathogenesis of MetS. This evidence concerns the gene SERPINE1 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
