Consistent with the effects on experimental atherosclerosis, hepatic SR-BI overexpression resulted in more macrophage-derived cholesterol being excreted into the feces [57], whereas macrophage RCT is clearly impaired in the total absence of SR-BI [33,57] as well as when SR-BI is exclusively deleted in the liver [51].
