In brain homogenates, mice with pneumococcal meningitis compared to saline inoculated mice showed elevated levels of KC and MIP-2 at both 6 hours (Figure 3; KC median 60 versus 393 pg/ml, P < 0.0001; MIP-2 median 45 versus 159 pg/ml, P = 0.003) and 30 hours (KC median 60 versus 18116 pg/ml, P < 0.0001; MIP-2 median 45 versus 10637 pg/ml, P < 0.0001) time points. Here, CXCL2 is linked to pneumococcal meningitis.
