MBD1 and Cognitive impairment: In fact, an elucidative work conducted by Allan and colleagues [94], showed that Mbd1-deficient mice, besides having decreased NSCs proliferation, as already described by Zhao et al., also exhibit significant deficits in several behavioural dimensions relevant for depression: increased anxious phenotype, detected in both elevated plus maze and light-dark preference tests; behavioural despair, observed in the forced swimming test; and cognitive deficits manifested during the execution of Morris water maze spatial learning tasks [94].
