Because the presence or absence of KIR2DL1 is a simple distinction of two centromeric KIR B regions and KIR2DL1 is in positive linkage disequilibrium with KIR2DL3, we also examined whether the presence or absence of KIR2DL1 in combination with HLA-C1 was associated with cerebral malaria.
