However, the top-10 fitSNP genes contain 30% of Cancer Gene Census genes [8], i.e. RUNX1, TRA@ and NF1, whereas two other genes out of the top-10, CTNNA1 and SMAD3, have an established role in cancer development as well [9], [10], illustrating that this strategy helps to identify genes with proven role in carcinogenesis (Table S4, Figure S4). The gene discussed is SMAD3; the disease is cancer.
