Three widely accepted phases of chronic hepatitis B infection have been identified based upon serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activity, the presence of hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) and HBV DNA level: (i) immune tolerant phase (ii) immune active (clearance) phase, and (iii) inactive phase [6], [7]. This evidence concerns the gene GPT and chronic hepatitis B virus infection.
