One might hypothesize that the shared genes are the reasons for shared symptoms— the abnormal expression of MUSK may cause the depression of bipolar disorder and major depression; PARK2 may cause the psychosis symptoms such as delusions, avolition, blunted effect, asociality, and cognitive dysfunction, which are commonly seen with varying severities in both schizophrenia and major depression; AP4M1 may cause the psychosis symptoms such as the less “bizarre” forms of delusions and restlessness sometimes observed in both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This evidence concerns the gene PRKN and major depressive disorder.
