Roumm et al. analyzed the infiltrates in the lesional skin of patients with SSc using monoclonal antibodies to cell surface markers and found the mononuclear cell (MNC) infiltrates were composed predominately of activated CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in a ratio of 2.4 to 1, and few B cells and monocytes were observed [12]. Here, CD8A is linked to systemic sclerosis.
