ATAD1 and malaria: The replication-deficient chimpanzee adenovirus 63 (ChAd63) has been shown to be a safe, versatile and exceptionally immunogenic vector when administered in a heterologous prime-boost regimen with the attenuated orthopoxvirus MVA in two Phase Ia clinical trials in healthy malaria-naïve adults in the UK; one using vectors encoding the liver-stage antigen thrombospondin related adhesion protein fused to a multi-epitope string (ME-TRAP) (O'Hara et al., J Infect Dis 2011 in press), and the other using the same vectors encoding the blood-stage antigen merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP1) [30].
