A significant difference in favour of insulin glargine remained after adjustment for the potentially confounding factors of age, gender, BMI, concomitant diseases and comorbidities, previous HbA1c value, time since HbA1c assessment, FBG value, time since diabetes diagnosis, time since insulinization, changes in treatment with rapid-acting insulin and OADs, number of injections per day and insulin dose: mean ± standard error, insulin glargine group −0.874 ± 0.031% and NPH insulin group −0.363 ± 0.047% (p < 0.001, analysis of covariance; Figure 2A).
