The question is whether or not it may have long-term consequences in adulthood: HP diet delivered during the postnatal period may lead to deterioration of renal function in adult rats [33]; decrease in insulin sensitivity has been reported in one-year-old LBW pigs [34], and this may promote diabetes and obesity as described in human and rodent adults after neonatal enriched diet feeding [35].
