However, G9a-knockdown renders cancer cells more sensitive to 5-Aza-CdR (5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine) treatment resulting in increased DNA hypomethylation and cell growth inhibition, indicating that G9a might be involved in re-initiation of de novo methylation and thus could serve as a promising target for combinatorial cancer treatment strategies involving DNA hypomethylating drugs.
