Interestingly, the positive association between chromosome 8p and schizophrenia was identified at least in four different ethnic populations from three GWASs [23], [24], [25], however, the most significant candidate gene was not EGR3. Since the variants of EGR3 locus may not surpass the level of genome-wide significance in GWA studies [30], the susceptibility of EGR3 to schizophrenia cannot be excluded by GWASs. The gene discussed is EGR3; the disease is schizophrenia.
