The observation that the eif4e2 TILLING mutant (with a stop codon mutation in exon 1) is susceptible to potyviruses [9] indicates that the knock-out of eIF4E2 is not sufficient to interfere with potyviral infection and therefore suggests a role for eIF4E2 that superimposes to the role of eIF4E1.
