FGFR2 and gastric cancer: The K-sam gene was first identified and characterised as an amplified gene in the human gastric cancer cell line KATO-III (Hattori et al, 1990; Ueda et al, 1999), and its product was later found to be identical to the bacteria-expressed kinase, or keratinocyte growth factor receptor, and FGF receptor 2 (FGFR2).
