A number of well-designed genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have implicated variants at the 5p15.33 locus (containing the TERT gene) in cancer risk at several different sites; lung cancer, basal cell carcinoma and pancreatic cancer show strong associations, while bladder, prostate and cervical cancer as well as glioma show risk alleles in this region [38]. This evidence concerns the gene TERT and pancreatic neoplasm.
