VEGFA and neoplasm: Extensive studies in several tumor types including head and neck cancer [13–16], nonsmall cell lung cancer [17, 18], liver cancer [19], renal cancer [17], colorectal cancer [17], and ovarian cancer [20] revealed the correlation of elevated circulating VEGF with tumor tissue expression [14, 17], increased microvessel density [14], disease aggressiveness including lymph node metastasis, advanced clinical stage [14, 15], distant metastasis [16], and poor prognosis [13, 15, 17–20].
