Indeed, it was recently shown that the predicted targets of a number of miRNAs overexpressed in the pancreatic islets of the type 2 diabetes model, Goto-Kakizaki rat, were shown to be enriched for genes with central roles in exocytosis, including Syntaxin-binding protein 1 (Stxbp1) shown experimentally to be a target of rno-miR-335 [22]. Here, STXBP1 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
