In addition, a proteomics study from Gulesserian et al. [24] showed that oxidative stress in fetal DS did not result from overexpression of SOD-1 protein but appeared to be the consequence of low levels of antioxidant enzymes involved in removal of hydrogen peroxide, such as glutathione transferases and thioredoxin peroxidases.
