Figure 3A shows the localization of the focal adhesion component vinculin in mock-infected cells, which have many centrally localized focal adhesions. The cells were also stained with phalloidin to identify polymerized actin which is present throughout the cells. In contrast, at 48 hours post-infection, endothelial cells latently infected with KSHV have fewer focal adhesions but they are strongly localized to the periphery, suggesting changes in the formation and turnover of the focal adhesions (Figure 3C).
