Increased expression of endothelin and angiotensin receptors is reported to occur in the cerebral vasculature after ischemic stroke [2], and indeed stroke is associated with elevated production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, endothelin-1 and angiotensin II [2], [42] – all of which can increase the activity and expression of NADPH oxidases.
