A stepwise multivariate regression analysis in a model including age, gender, body mass index, waist circumference, smoking habits, lipid levels, blood pressure, fasting and 2-hour post-load plasma glucose, fasting and 2-hour post-load insulin levels, ISI index, and minutes spent in hypoglycemia showed that the two variables that remained significantly associated with carotid IMT were minutes spent in hypoglycemia (partial r2 = 0.252; P<0.0001), and ISI index (partial r2 = 0.089; P = 0.004), accounting for 34.1% of the variation. Here, INS is linked to Hypoglycemia.
