Subjects with type 1 diabetes compared with subjects with type 2 diabetes had significantly lower C-peptide levels (0.14±0.15 vs. 2.29±1.57 ng/ml, p = 0.0003), higher adiponectin (16.6±5.6 vs. 7.3±3.5 ug/ml, p = 0.0003), higher HDL cholesterol (60.8±10.6 vs. 47.8±16.1 mg/dl, p = 0.045) and only 30% of the subjects with type 1 diabetes had positive anti-GAD antibody titer (30% vs. 0, p = 0.9024). The gene discussed is GAD1; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
