More recently, the association of the E23K variant and a different KCNJ11 variant rs5215 [I337V; in strong linkage disequilibrium (LD) with E23K] with T2DM have been confirmed in several genome-wide association studies [9], [10], [11], generating renewed interests in its potential role as a genetic marker for T2DM development. The gene discussed is KCNJ11; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
