Our results indicated that ACSL5 transcript levels were higher in SLE than in controls and that silencing ACSL5 mRNA by short interference RNA (siRNA) decreased the apoptosis induced by phorbol-myristate-acetate plus ionomycin (PMA+Io)-activation of Jurkat T cells, thus implicating ACSL5 in AICD. Here, ACSL5 is linked to systemic lupus erythematosus.
