Applying multivariable Cox regression analysis, including age, sex, stage, metastasis status, and tumor grade, in contrast to CAV1 cell membrane expression (p = 0.51; HR 1.17, 95% CI 0.73-1.87, and p = 0.34; HR 1.31, 95% CI 0.75-2.30), a high CAV1 protein expression level in the tumor cell cytoplasm could be identified as an independent poor prognostic marker of both overall (p = 0.022; HR 1,74, 95% CI 1.08-2.80) and tumor specific survival (p = 0.026; HR 1.95, 95% CI 1.08-3.51) in RCC patients (table 3).
