A positive association between HHV-8 seropositivity and prevalent prostate cancer in a cross-sectional study [9] and an inverse (though not statistically significant) association in a prospective study, an inverse association most evident in men sent for biopsy (e.g., PSA ≥ 4 ng/mL, age-adjusted HR 0.39, 95% CI 0.10-1.63; Table 4), lead to the following speculation. The gene discussed is PROS1; the disease is prostate carcinoma.
