TIMP3 and colorectal carcinoma: Figure 1 shows the methylation status of the 13 genes investigated by bisulfite/pyrosequencing in relation to stage of primary CRC and to liver metastasis. Methylation of p14, TIMP3 and HPP1 in primary tumors progressively decreased from absence to presence of liver metastasis (13.1% [95% CI, 19.1% to 7.1%] vs. 4.3% [95% CI, 6.8% to 1.7%]; P<.001; 14.8% [95% CI, 21.3% to 8.2%] vs. 3.7% [95% CI, 5.3% to 2.1%]; P = .011; 43.9% [95% CI, 49.4% to 38.3] vs. 35.8% [95% CI, 41.6% to 30.0%]; P = .045, respectively).
