The proteins that showed the greatest degree of overexpression in primary colorectal cancer compared with normal colonic mucosa were HSP60 (p<0.001), S100A9 (p<0.001) and translatinally controlled tumour protein (TCTP, p<0.001, Table 3), while for Dukes C cancers no proteins showed increased immunoreactivity in the lymph node metastasis compared with the corresponding primary colorectal cancers and the proteins that showed the greatest decrease in expression in lymph node metastasis were PHB (p = 0.002), peroxiredoxin (PRDX1, p = 0.003) and HSP60 (p = 0.005, Table 3). This evidence concerns the gene HSPD1 and colorectal cancer.
