Circulating levels of leptin and adiponectin, two adipose tissue-derived hormones with opposing associations with the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and coronary heart disease, are altered in PCOS [15], thus contributing through the low-grade chronic inflammation to the long-term metabolic consequence of the syndrome [16], and possibly, to the dysregulation between apoptotic and antiapoptotic mechanisms [17]. Here, LEP is linked to polycystic ovary syndrome.
