Infection studies using inbred strains have allowed identification of specific immune mediators that affect host clearance, such as Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) [11, 12], MyD88 [13, 14], CD14 [15, 16], IL-10 [17, 18], the chemokine KC [19], and the production of antibodies against critical B. burgdorferi antigens [20–24].
