CD8A and infection: In contrast, there were modest increases in activated CD3+CD8- cells in the BAL of “primed” animals on day 4 post-infection (peak frequency 5.2–13.8% of BAL CD3+CD8- lymphocytes), but marked increases in the frequency of cells with this phenotype between days 4 and 14 in naive animals (peak frequency 7.0–63.9% of BAL CD3+CD8- lymphocytes), suggesting that activated CD4+ T cells localized to the lung, but mostly did not traffic through the blood, after H1N1pdm infection (Fig. S5).
