Non-small cell lung cancers containing activating EGFR mutations in exons 19 and 21 are associated with significantly higher response rates and superior progression-free survival (PFS) in patients treated with gefitinib compared with first-line platinum doublet regimens and to second-line single-agent docetaxel (Mok et al, 2009; Douillard et al, 2010; Maemondo et al, 2010; Mitsudomi et al, 2010).
