In conclusion, incorporation of a dietary supplement tablet containing 1.8 g/day unesterified plant sterols/stanols into the NCEP TLC diet produced favourable changes in apolipoprotein B-containing lipoprotein lipids in individuals with hypercholesterolaemia and would be expected to reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease if consumed over an extended period of time (Miettinen and Gylling 2004).
