PNPLA3 and cirrhosis of liver: Great interest has come from a genome-wide association study that identified a single-nucleotide polymorphism (rs738409C/G) in the PNPLA3 gene on chromosome 22, encoding an isoleucine→methionine substitution (p.I148M) of patatin-like phospholipase A3, also termed adiponutrin as risk factor of steatohepatitis and liver cirrhosis in alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease [5], [6].
