In view of the well-established role of IFN-γ production in the antituberculosis immune response [70], in vitro findings that tocilizumab, in contrast with infliximab and etanercept, does not impair IFN-γ production in response to mycobacterial antigen exposure [71], and Mycobacterium tuberculosis-induced interleukin 6 inhibits the responsiveness of macrophages towards IFN-γ [72], may suggest a low risk for TB reactivation during tocilizumab therapy. This evidence concerns the gene IFNG and tuberculosis.
